I have a screenshot of a single 1080ti and and 8 core i7 pulling over 1000 watts water cooled, and staying cool, OCing high pulls huge power, be ready if you go that route. So why people don't recommend XOC bios for daily use because of the incredible power potential of the 1080ti and 2080ti when limits are removed.

My reference 1080ti underwater is stable at 1.15 volts at 2166 megahertz, but at that level since it never down clocks due to power limit or temperature limit (stays under 40c) while using the XOC bios it will pull over 600 watts with the right load. I repeat it is NOT safe to run 1080ti at elevated voltage daily overclocks. That said there is an x OC bios available for all 1080ti cards that removes all power limitations that allows you to set vcore to whatever you want up to 1.25 volts. Nvidia gpus are most damaged by high voltage not high current so raising the power limit is fine but raising the vcore is generally not a good idea on daily over clocks. It just means that you are at the edge of stability.įor proper water cooling setups the limit is almost never temperature, it's raw speed that the silicon will tolerate. essentially it means yes it's stable under Max load, but it's not stable at part load which is why my CPU and your GPU crash in games but not stability test or benchmarks. It has to do with the ways CPUs and gpus are loaded and unloaded, and voltage under shoot during transient load. I have the same problem with my CPU, where certain settings are totally stable in all benchmarking and stability tests, but as soon as you start playing games you encounter random crashes. Reset the GPU to stock speeds and see if it continues crashing, if it no longer crashes then clearly your GPU overclock is unstable. You need to isolate then and figure out which one is causing the instability. Randomly crashing during games is it an indicator that something is unstable, either your GPU or your CPU. Drivers have been updated (years ago) to lower the clock speed drastically and prevent the cards from hurting themselves. MSI kombustor no longer damage gpus so ignore parrots saying that.
